Framer 3.0: AI agents on the canvas, plus branching and a template marketplace

What it is. Framer 3.0 is a major update to the web design and publishing tool. The headline addition is AI Agents that live inside the canvas and can help you design layouts, write copy, analyze your site, and reorganize content without you leaving the editor. Alongside that, Branching lets teams spin off experimental versions of a site to try things out before anything touches the live URL. The new Community marketplace is where creators can share and sell site templates.

Why it matters. The AI pitch in most design tools right now is a generation panel off to the side, something you query and then paste from. Agents working on the canvas is a different posture. If they hold up in practice, the back-and-forth of iterating on a layout or rewriting a section becomes something closer to a conversation with the file itself. Branching is the quieter but arguably more useful addition for teams: the ability to explore a direction without it being the direction removes a lot of the friction that slows down collaborative site work.

How to use it. Open a Framer project and call up an Agent from the canvas. A reasonable place to start is something concrete: ask it to restructure a section, rewrite a headline to a specific tone, or audit your page for visual consistency. Let it make the change, look at what it did, and either keep it or redirect it. The agent works in the file, so you are reviewing actual design output rather than copy in a chat window. For Branching, the workflow fits naturally around any time your team wants to pressure-test a new direction. Create a branch before you redesign the hero or swap the nav structure, share it with a collaborator for a read, and merge or discard from there.

Limits. How well the Agents actually perform on complex, established sites is still an open question. AI on a canvas sounds right in theory and can disappoint in practice when your layout has real specificity to it. Branching is only as useful as your team’s willingness to adopt the habit, and it adds a layer of version management that smaller solo workflows may find more overhead than it is worth. The Community marketplace is new, which means the template library is thin for now and will take time to develop into a real resource.
